A responsible company, European leader in the newsprint industry

In line with our values of openness, honesty and cooperation, we have decided to make Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable development core elements of our vision.

Openness, Honesty and Cooperation have been the three guiding values behind our behaviour and decisions on a day-to-day basis. These are the values of our parent group Norske Skogindustrier ASA, which has signed up to the UN Global Compact.

The Global Compact brings together companies, employees and civil society to support ten universal principles in the following areas:

  • Human rights
  • Labour
  • Environment
  • Anti-corruption.

A vision that makes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) a core element

In line with our values, we have decided to integrate not merely the principles of the Global Compact, but also the more general ones of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which form the core of our vision: “A responsible company, European leader in the newsprint industry”.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept under which companies voluntary integrate the requirements of sustainable development. All our activities and interactions with stakeholders must comply with that concept.

CSR, sustainable development and the ISO 26000 standard

Our CSR approach is supported by the recommendations of the standard ISO 26000. That standard sets out guidelines in seven areas for companies that want to operate in a socially responsible manner and support sustainable development.

Our CSR approach is symbolised by an illustration that represents the four requirements of sustainable development. In order to concretely implement our efforts in favour of Corporate Social Responsibility, we have identified a list of nine commitments.

Governance & Economy

  • Taking account of our social impacts in the governance and management of the company.

Environment

  • Reducing our carbon footprint.
  • Preferring reduction at source, reuse, recycling and repurposing of waste.
  • Promoting the local co-development of new streams for eco-materials and circular economy.

Labour

  • Developing autonomy and responsibility in the company.
  • Developing the employability of each employee.

Social

  • Making our activity part of a dynamic for the social and economic prosperity of the local area.
  • Integrating Social Responsibility in the choice and tracking of suppliers.
  • Offering products and services that are socially and environmentally responsible.

These nine CSR commitments have been made part of our strategic plan and are accompanied by action and indicators. As a responsible newsprint manufacturer, the publication of our first CSR report at the end of 2014 bears testament to:

  • Our commitment to organise our CSR approach
  • Our dedication to openness
  • The results and progress already achieved
  • Our commitment to keep up our efforts in a spirit of Continual Improvement
