OCC

Old Corrugated Containers = recovered corrugated materials.

BOX

The name of the Norske Skog Golbey’s project to diversify towards recycled containerboard.

Fluting

Also called corrugating medium. In the containerboard industry, fluting is a type of paper used to make the central layer of corrugated cardboard. This layer helps the cardboard to withstand heavy loads and resist impacts.

Testliner

Paper made from recycled fibres. It is used to manufacture the outer layers of corrugated cardboard. It gives the cardboard its appearance and strength.

CCM

Corrugated case material, also known as containerboard

Width

The width of a strip of paper or containerboard is measured in millimetres or centimetres. The width is an important characteristic of the paper or containerboard reels, as it determines the area available for printing or packaging production.

Recycled fibres

Recycled fibres are cellulose fibres from recovered paper or cardboard

Virgin fibres

Virgin fibres are cellulose fibres derived from wood.

PM1

Paper Machine no. 1

PM2

Paper Machine no. 2

Biogas

Biogas is a combustible gas produced by fermenting organic matter. At Norske Skog Golbey, we produce our biogas from our water effluents. Biogas can be used as an energy source to produce electricity, heat or fuel. It can also be injected into the natural gas grid. The use of biogas for a paper mill has several advantages. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions, recycles organic waste and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels.

TMP

Thermo-mechanical process for producing paper pulp from wood

Bioeconomy

Economy using the biological resources of the land and sea, as well as waste, as inputs for the manufacture of human and animal food products, industrial production and energy generation. The term also covers the use of bioprocesses in sustainable industries.

Circular economy

An approach that involves doing more with fewer resources and less energy, from product design to recycling materials in order to make other products.

SDG

Sustainable Development Goals. Defined in 2015 by the United Nations, they provide a universal frame of reference for eradicating poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda for 2030.

Stakeholders

Individuals or groups who have an impact on or could be affected by an organisation’s activities, products or services.
